Getting an education is a major factor in preventing reoffending, research shows.

This month Metro.co.uk has been speaking to our CEO Michelle and Prisoner’s Education Trust (PET) about the importance of education for prisoners.

Drawing on her own experience of 14 years behind bars, Michelle tributes her successful rehabilitation to the fact she was able to study for her degree whilst in prison.

‘Being in prison is such a harsh system that really de-humanises people – it takes away their hope and self-belief,’ Michelle said. ‘But if you give people something to work towards it gives them that hope for a future and enables them to learn about the world we are living in.’

 

Research by PET shows this indeed to be true. Maybe more education is what the system needs…
